CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man is dead and another is in critical condition after they were hit Wednesday morning by a car on Gratiot Avenue in Clinton Township.
Police said the men were crossing Gratiot at Capital Boulevard at about 6 a.m. when they were hit by a Dodge Ram pickup truck that was going northbound. The driver stopped, and is cooperating with police.
“Unfortunately, a couple of pedestrians were crossing from the east side of the street to the west side of the street, possibly to get to the bus stop, and didn’t see the car coming, and he didn’t see the pedestrians,” Sgt. Chris Allis said.
The deceased victim is a 56-year-old Clinton Township man. The surviving victim is a 36-year-old man from Eastpointe. He is in critical condition.
Allis said the men didn’t cross at a crosswalk — which was about 150 feet south of where they were hit.
Police said the area is “poorly lit,” and that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
