MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) –A bicyclist was injured after he was hit by a suspected drunk driver.The accident happened in front of Dodge’s Chicken on Elvis Presley Boulevard on Saturday.
The victim told police he was riding his bicycle in the middle lane when he was hit from behind by a car. He said he was thrown from his bike into the windshield of the car, then he hit the ground.
According to the affidavit, the driver, 39-year-old Stephen Snipes told police he heard a loud noise and then he saw the victim hit his windshield.
The victim was taken to Methodist South hospital in non-critical condition.Police said Snipes initially left the scene, but came to Methodist South hospital to check on the victim and make sure he was ok.
Officers said they asked Snipes if he had been drinking to which he admitted to doing so. Officers said Snipes’ eyes were blood shot red. Several tests were done on Snipes, including a ‘walk the line’ test and a blood test.
Snipes was arrested and taken into custody. He is charged with driving while under the influence, reckless driving, no driver’s license and no insurance.
