In Cape Town, South Africa – Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Obed Bapela is still recuperating after surviving a serious crash last week, Kgosi Pontsho Maubane said on Thursday.
Maubane said Bapela was recovering well, but was not able to attend the opening of the National House of Traditional Leaders in Cape Town on Thursday.
Bapela and his driver were injured in a crash on Friday between a truck and his SUV on the N12 near Fochville on the western mining belt outside Johannesburg.
Bapela had been travelling as part of a convoy which included several law enforcement vehicles.
At the time, ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said the SUV driver had swerved to avoid a head on collision with a truck, but the truck had clipped the SUV.
